Are you single or starting a family? How much is your budget? Depending on your answers,
there’s a condo unit type that fits your needs.
1. Studio
This unit is usually the most affordable in any condo development given the limited floor area.
There are studio units that can go as low as 18sqm in total floor area.
Tips: Choose studio units that have at least an integrated bathroom and kitchen, and a balcony
that can be turned into an additional living area. A studio is best for single people and couples.
2. Loft
If the condo building is blessed with high ceilings, a potential studio unit is fitted with a loft – an
elevated bedroom accessed by stairs. This loft bedroom is open, looks over onto the main living
area below, so this unit is not ideal for those who are finicky about privacy. Lofts are also tricky
to air-condition so choose one with generously sized windows that can be opened to save up on
electricity bills.
Tip: A loft unit is not recommended for senior folk, couples with toddlers, and people who have
difficulty climbing up stairs.
3. 1-bedroom / 2-bedroom / 3-bedroom Unit
Units with one, two, or three bedrooms cater to couples or small families. A well-planned
three-bedroom unit should have at least two bathrooms, a hallway leading to the bedrooms,
and maid’s room/utility room. The cost depends on the floor area of the unit.
Tip: Be wary of studio units with low partitions whose owners claim these to be one-bedroom
units.
4. Penthouse
Located on the uppermost floor of a condo, penthouses are the most expensive units, due to a
large floor area plus the exclusivity and privacy offered to the tenants.
Tip: Most penthouses are stand-alone units on the top floor and have their own exclusive
elevators; some are multi-level or split-level, and others even have private swimming pools and
lanais.
